By on March 3, 2014

Happy Lundi Gras, y’all!

With so many people traveling to New Orleans to see the majestic city at its finest this Mardi Gras season, I’d like to put forth my two cents of travel advice as a NOLA native. If any of…

“How’s ya momma and ‘dem?” – Travel Writing for (some of) NOLA’s Local Culture

By on February 13, 2014

A month ago, on a whim, I replied to a random Craigslist ad that was seeking travel writers. And since Craigslist is always a coin toss, I was pleasantly surprised shortly after to be…

In Defense Of The Great Grammy Heist: Why Hip-Hop Isn’t Dead Because Macklemore And Ryan Lewis Won | Thought Catalog

By on January 31, 2014

Friends, poets, hip-hop heads, rappers, wordsmiths, and music lovers,

I just had my first article published on Thought Catalog. It’s about Macklemore and Ryan Lewis winning a couple of The GRAMMYs and why that happening isn’t the death knell for hip-hop and rap.

My thoughts and feelings on this whole subject were far more complex than I initially…

The Atlanta Kickstarter Gathering

By on December 11, 2013

While researching how to grow support organically for a crowdfunding campaign, I came up with this idea that’s (in my humble opinion) hinting at genius. I decided to take simple, digital cross-promotion one step further and to extend it into…

The Fantastic Acorn — Kickstarter and Marketing Campaign

By on November 30, 2013

About a month ago, I was contracted by a trio of enterprising engineering students from Georgia Tech to turn a Kickstarter campaign for their fan-speed indicator device, The Acorn, into a funding triumph. So, I’ve spent that past month setting up and refining their Kickstarter page, establishing their presence through…

The Hybrid I Am

By on July 4, 2013

So when I first got published in the May edition of NATIVE, I rolled out with a one-two punch. In addition to writing an article about b-cycling with Keith Rawls, I also had the privilege of profiling the recent literary success of my good friend and fellow writer Kat Zhang….

Left, Right, Forward. Never Back.

By on July 3, 2013

I’ve always found myself intrigued by the stories and lives of others, so much so that people watching has become one of my favorite past-times. Luckily, as a writer, I have the ability to do more than creepily watch people from afar; I can chat with them about their…

    • Also, the other thing I did last weekend: performed in this super fun #improv show! Thanks to @stillsarahackerman and @laughingmatterscomedy for letting me play with y’all in #BattleActs, and for the homies for coming out to support. (Lenise is still a beast, even though she lost the crown.)
    • This past weekend, I had the super cool opportunity to lead 2 panels at a legit #writers conference right here in #Atlanta. Thank you to @broadleafwriters, @zacharysteele23, and @rileymccarthy76 for trusting me to ask some good questions and to keep a room full of writers engaged. I learned a lot and got to spend some quality time with some quality friends - both new and old. Looking forward to next year already. #bwc19, #writing
    • So it’s 3am over in Split, #Croatia - the land of my #family, of my people - and as I lay here, restless, I can’t help but think about the passing of yet another anniversary of #HurricaneKatrina and it’s devastation to my #NewOrleans #home, another land full of my family and people. // Earlier today, on vacation, as we toured together the ancient palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, our wonderful tour guide pointed out the different eras and styles of construction that showed their faces throughout, and how the people of the city have always used it as a living structure. Despite political and actual wars, changes in faith and leaders, and thousands of years of time, the structure still stands and lives, and the people keep adapting and living right along with it. // I’ll post more pictures later, but for now, I’m too busy enjoying these rare moments with loved ones both near and far to let the sadness of loss long ago seep in. Maybe this is healing. Maybe this is adapting. Maybe this is living. And, man, ain’t that somethin.
    • Guess who just moved on down to #Atlanta, y'all?! #Vandy, #Fraaands, #ReuniteTheAdmiralsClub, #GonnaWinAllTheTriviaNightsNow, #MetaNashvilleFilter
    • The top 10 of my trip to visit some of my top friends this past weekend. #NYC, #StatueOfLiberty, #EmoNight, #ConeyIsland, #Nonnas, #BookOfMormon
    • Recent fun times at the @dadsgarageatl student mixer nights. 😁 #practice, #improv, #Atlanta
